DC Biodiesel LLC: An Urban Biodiesel Model with Flexible Feedstock
Hosting Sponsor: Andrews Kurth LLP
The Center for Economic and Environmental Partnership, Inc., will sponsor its next Washington, DC Energy & Environmental Funders’ meeting on Friday June 5, 2009. DC BIODIESEL, based in Washington, D.C., is the first project for DC BIODIESEL, a globally oriented company focused on the conversion of waste products, principally grease and rendered animal by-products, into biodiesel products for transportation, home heating, industrial, and power generation applications. The Company will address the market created by the U.S. Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, which mandated the increased use of biofuels from 5 to 36 billion gallons by 2022. The Company has created a business model that addresses the inherent limitations of most U.S. based biodiesel facilities by locating the operation in urban population centers, engineering dramatically increased flexibility in feedstock sourcing, creating a barrier to entry on a regional basis through a strategic relationship with the municipal government and strategic partnerships with regional based feedstock suppliers, and using a proprietary additive that enables cold weather operation of biodiesel. DC Biodiesel will provide a full range of biodiesel products from B100, to be sold to other biodiesel blenders; B2, B5, B10, and B20 for transportation activities; and Bioheat® for heating fuel oil. (The fuels will include the additive to further improve fuel emissions and cold weather operations.) The Company has taken off-the-shelf technology used to convert waste products to biodiesel, and assembled them in a proprietary manner to add a significant amount of flexibility in terms of feedstock source. The ability to use multiple feedstock sources (yellow/fryer grease, brown/trap grease, chicken fat, tallow) will lessen the dependence on any one source and allow for multiple sourcing to obtain lower raw materials cost than its competitors The market for biodiesel is extensive. It encompasses users of diesel engines for any application as well as industrial fuel oil users including the utilities industry. Notably, every major diesel engine manufacturer has approved the use of biodiesel for some or all of its engines. Bioheat is also a direct substitute for bunker fuel. The Company has identified sales prospects with the DC government and many of its departments, the Federal government, private truck fleets, residential heating users and power generation companies. The business model is easily replicated in any urban population center in the U.S., Europe, Asia and South America. The first refinery site has been identified, and additional sites and geographies are in the final stages of planning. Speaker: Wendell L. Jenkins, Executive Vice-President & Chief Business Development Officer, will describe the company's market, feedstock, technology and progress Sector Expert: TBA Date: Friday, June 5, 2009 Time: 8:00 – 10:00 am Place: Andrews Kurth LLP 1350 I Street, NW, Suite 1100 Washington, DC 20006 202-662-2700 Security: You will need to sign in, show a picture ID and tell the security personnel that you are attending CEEP's DC Energy & Environmental Funders meeting at Andrews Kurth LLP in Suite 1100.
